Do any of you people like to rummage through garbage at yard sales or thrift stores? I do, but a lot of the stuff is too nice and new for my tastes. Show and tell anything good you find.

I'm considering dumpster diving or driving around on trash day to pick up the good stuff I like.

You mean like going thru the rubbish bins at yard sales?

>I'm considering dumpster diving or driving around on trash day to pick up the good stuff I like
this reminds me, often on bin night during the very early hours of the morning (like 3-4am) I will hear that sound of rubbish bins opening and closing.
At first i thought it might have just been a neighbor putting their bin out. but there is too many bin opening and closing sounds,
I wonder if it is someone going thru other peoples rubbish bins or maybe its some sort of wild animal. I dont really care, all my rubbish consists of is dried cum tissues and receipts from food/takeaway shops :S

What about Trash & Treasure / Sunday markets, you guys ever been to those?
when i was a kid my dad lived near one and we would go just for this one stall that sold the single greatest cinnamon doughnuts Ive ever had and will ever have. they were from a local stall, not like a food chain or anything. They were cooked fresh so they were slightly warm and had bits of crispiness to the pastry and the perfect amount of cinnamon. this was a few years back so I dont know if they still exist anymore. Other then that all i remember where people selling bootleg music, PC games and movies and also counterfeit clothing. There were probably other stalls of crap people had made but i dont remember
also, not to get OT but since someone >>22716 mentioned fireworks, at this same house, near the trash and treasure, they would have fireworks during the local show ever year. We would climb up onto the roof and watch them. This was in the summer time too when i was a kid, ahh man i just got hit with some nostalgia right in the feels. GAAAAAAAAAAAAY

anyways I should go back sometime.
I did hear from someone that this particular trash & treasure has gone downhill over the last few years
sorry for the autistic ramble of a post.
I do have some other things that Ive gotten that I could post later on

First up is my Philips d3700 that i bought for $5
its a clock, alarm, radio, cassette player and recorder all in one.

as u can see by the sticker it says "shed radio works" unfortunaly for me, Im retarded and i didnt understand that its only the radio part that works and not the cassette player/recorder part.
I tried to record the radio playing but my phone didnt pick it up to well so you might want to up the volume.

Also I would like to attempt to repair it but as you can see from one of the pics, there is a very large DONT OPEN AND TRY TO REPAIR THIS OR ELSE UR ASS IS GONNA GET FRIED"
Now i have ZERO experience reparing anything electronic butt i have found the manual online, butt i havent found a video tutorial on repairing the cassette part which is what i really need. I suspect that its probably pretty easy of a job just replacing the rubber band parts that go around the thing that Ive heard some other retard tell me to do.
I really like the buttons even though they are kinda stiff.

PS. I lied
I did unscrew a bit of it to get a sneaky peaky and it looks really, really dirty inside. Probs something like a can of compressed air could easily fix though.

The "do not open" is just to cover their asses liability wise. If you're opening it up just to change the belts and nothing else, you'll be fine. You can watch videos of repairing other cassettes, they don't vary terribly differently from one another. The hardest part is disassembly, actually changing the belts isn't hard and I wouldn't be discouraged if I were you. Changing belts is one of the easiest repair jobs to do and a good place to start.

>>23079
Probably not necessary if the only thing that's wrong is old belts. Electrolytic capacitors are a common cause for issues, but belts should be inspected first because they are much more likely an issue than capacitors. I would only consider changing capacitors if there were further issues after changing the belts. If the device turns on, radio works, but the cassette function isn't working, it's most likely belts.

Yeah I agree with you on that. Changing the belts is the first thing im gonna try because ive heard its pretty easy 2 do and the cassete part is what Im most interested in.

HOWEVER, I did it open it up slightly, to look at its insides and its kinda hard to put it into words but there were a lot of plastic parts that fell apart when i started to unscrew the basic cover parts and with no video tutorials on this device and with my inexperience Im honestly not that confident, which makes me hesitant to do it tbh

I have had this personal stereo (what a name) since I was a teenager. Until about 4 years ago I was still playing cassettes. I remember one nostalgic day I turned it on and listened to some. A few months ago I turned it back on and it no longer plays cassettes. I press the play button and the little round thing that spins the cassette doesn't play. I'm sure it's a capacitor. The bad thing is that there are no screws anywhere to disassemble the device. It's all snapped together. I don't want to open it with brute force because I think I'll end up destroying it.
What a bad luck. :/

>I'm sure it's a capacitor.
It's most likely a belt. In cassettes, if it otherwise powers on but the cassette doesn't spin, the belt (similar to a rubber band) that turns the gears has broken or lost it's elasticity. This happens due to time and/or heat. Over time heat can make the band lose it's elasticity or melt. This is the #1 issue for cassette players and luckily is a very easy fix.

> I don't want to open it with brute force because I think I'll end up destroying it.
I take apart devices that have no screws all the time. You need spudging tools, which are designed to go between the snapped together parts pic rel. You can slowly work it to open up the device. So far I've never broken anything doing this and it's likely you won't either. It does take strength, probably more than you'd think. Again, you probably won't break the case.

Once you have it open, you can confirm if the bands are either melted or broken. You can temporarily replace them with actual rubber bands, but it's best to get dedicated electronics bands. Buy a pack of multiple different sizes, size it to what the original band was, and then you'll likely have a working player.

Capacitors can be an issue for old electronics, but often times people discount other factors that should be checked first depending on the issue and the device and wrongfully attribute issues to capacitors. Usually it's good to replace bands first, test, if there's more trouble then proceed with more troubleshooting.
>>23180
Whoops sorry for the retarded spacing, anyways, hope this helps.
>>23180
I assume this is Ashley, you've mentioned spudging tools before somewhere. I had never used them or even heard of them before, but throughout my life I've encountered those "snap together" plastic housings for stuff, and they're always a pain in the ass to get into. Anyway I got a cheap kit and boy are these things useful. There's one that's amazing as an ear cleaner. Neat recommendation, thanks.

Yes that was my post. The spudging tools are really helpful. Speaking of cleaning ears, I had a q-tip on my table with what looked exactly like ear wax on the ends. I was confused for a second because only brain dead people use qtips to clean their ears. The superior ear cleaning method is with some form of metal scraper. Qtips just mash it around your ear. Anyways, after thinking someone went into my room only to clean their ears and left the evidence on my table, I then realized it was just flux from soldering, because I used rubbing alcohol on a qtip to clean the flux from a PCB.

Are very comfy and effective.

Can you show your desk or place where you work with welding? Also your work equipment, which ones do you recommend to have and explain to those who don't know how you do it. Also what have been your jobs.
I also weld from time to time. Yesterday I soldered some power sharing clamps for car battery that were loose. They look good now.
I also changed capacitors on a headphone amplifier a while back. I put nichicon audio capacitors and in parallel I also put film capacitors. It improved the sound a lot.
You are lucky to live in Texas. There is a mouser distributor there and they sell tons of electronic parts. The last time I bought from mouser I paid a lot in taxes to be able to receive the package in my country.

Mouser is great. I got burned too many times ordering from other places. Once I ordered one of those Chinese bulk capacitor sets just to have a collection to get started, but every capacitor's ESR was measuring too high. I measured probably 80 and only 3 were good, but still on the higher end. I heard people say the cheap Chinese kits are bad, but I saw some people use them with success, so I wasn't sure what to believe until I got one myself. I'm sticking with Mouser, you don't have to worry about knock offs and the prices are really reasonable. Since I'm in the US shipping was fairly cheap as long as I loaded up on items to make the order worthwhile. I also go with Nichicon capacitors as well as Panasonic.

Have you worked with replacing transistors or fuses? I was considering trying yet another cheap Chinese kit for fuses and transistors, maybe they're better to get in a kit than capacitors. Again, I've seen people use them with success, but I'll probably have bad luck.

That's because those will also mash ear wax in your ears without actually scooping anything out. You need the optimal metal scraper. You put the metal scraper in your ear, pushed against the ear with a firm pressure, and go in a complete circle around your ear and pull out a satisfying plethora of ear wax. I do this a few times until my ear is as clean as Jordan Peterson after a trip to Russia.

I have used some cheap capacitors that I bought in China and have had no problems so far. Of course they are small devices that I connect from time to time.
For audio it seems to me that it is mandatory to use original capacitors (and transistors and semiconductors) bought from an authorized dealer. The difference between audio capacitors and normal capacitors is remarkable.

I recently bought a kit of Chinese fuses for my car I think they work well and I also ordered some nec transistors (they do not look original) but I think they will work to fix a mini amp that I destroyed a little the plate (I removed the aluminum of the pcb plate). I know a technician in my town who has talent for soldering and has fixed some of my devices with similar problems. Once he fixed me a ps3 fat cecha01 (the best model out there) that I thought was dead (I mistakenly cut a line on the PCB) and the guy fixed it for me.

I got into soldering more than anything for audio. It is not difficult to substantially improve a sound system and so far the results have been satisfactory.

Went to a vintage and collectibles market on the weekend.
this place was huge, ok? I went all by myself and it still took 2 and a half hours to get through every stall.

They had shit stacked from floor to ceiling there was just sooo much stuff squeezed into every little space possible.
Every now and again you could heard someone knocking into something. Thank god Im just dumb and not full downie because if I had that extra chromosome and extra ass, I would have been knocking things over left, right and centre they were that tight
It was so tight to navigate some stalls I had to walk around them with my shoulders and arms squeezing together so I wouldnt accidentally bump into something and knock it over.

Anyways, there was a pretty good range of stuff. Heaps of toys, car related items, signs, records/CDs, beer/soda bottles, tools, clothing, videogames, cameras, misc memorbilla (or however you say it) and everything in between.
There were even some war items like old shells and helmets.
sadly no small CRT that I would like to have. In fact there was only one TV in the entire place and it looked like something from the 1950s.
Price wise, most things seemed a bit more expensive than what you would find online, but the advantage at the market is you could see with your own human eyeballs what sort of condition they were in and you dont have to pay shipping.

This place also does a live auction as well, but it was on earlier in the day before I arrived so unfortunately I missed it. Ive never been to an auction for items that were not slaves so it would have been interesting to see what special items they have up for auction.

ok onto the puctures...

There was a surprising amount of M&M memeobrilla, including the big M&M guy that Ashley shows in her room tour her video. though hers looked brown for some odd reason....
You cant see it clearly on the photo, but on the tag of the M&M phone it says "AF" which I assume stands for As Found, meaning they dont know if it does or doesnt work.
I tried getting a photo of the radio alarm clock thats in the glass case but the lights reflecting off the glass obscured it and also Im black so of course security was giving me the sussy stare smh smh so I had to move on.

I dont remember how much the Ronald McDonald on the left was, probably around $50. It has a zip that you can undo. Its probably just a small pouch to store stuff in sadly, and not his bare chest complete with realistic bright red chest hair.
No price on the Beavis and Butthead patch and also I came across another Ronald. It was kind of like the middle one but more like the size of the left Ronald.
Oh yeah, when I was exiting one stall, I looked up and saw a Paul Hogan Show on VHS and instantly laughed to myself and thought of Seabee no homo

The Canon digital camera felt like it was made of solid steel. Picking it up I was surprised by the weight of it (apparently this model is pretty good, so it might be worth more than the tag).
The blue cassette recorder looked great but even in A++++condition, it was a bit high in price for me. Similar thing with the Hanimax cassette tape and TV. That would be a lot of fun to play with but I would probably get bored of it too quickly for something at that price. It says it does works though.

The Super 8 camera had no tag or anything on it. It was just simply on a shelf. So I had no clue if it worked or was lacking parts or whatever. Plus, please dont kill me Antiques Guy, but its kinda embarrassing to admit that when I was there i didnt know what it was.
Like yeah, its a camera of some sort but I hadnt ever seen one like this before. I only found out what it was because I looked it up when I got home. Next time when i go back i might ask if I can buy it for like

$10

There was also a Garfield bum bag, but it looked pretty new. Oh and some stalls had the odd bit of newly made items that you could easily just find in any toy shop, like a Funko Pop for example
Anyways, this place was huge, free to get in and had lots of stuff. Had a great time and will go back again.

ALSO whilst there, I saw a tranny for the first time in my life.
I was looking around and noticed someone kinda odd and was like hey is that person wearing a wig? and then i noticed the broad shoulders. They turned around and sure enough it was clearly a man in makeup with a wig on and a dress. He was with another guy as well, he was wearing a trench coat.

The end.

I like hearing about your personal experience going to one of these places. I get the same pleasure reading your post like I get pleasure reading an erotica, except I don't feel ashamed once I finish reading it.

Kinda insane they had the 1993 M&M candy dispensers I have. $28 is an absolute scam for them, though. In fact, everything is priced way too high at the place you went to. Nearly $200 for an M&M phone? Yeah, no. That's going up my training pocket for free. $75 for an M&M clock? You can buy a blowjob for less than the price of that clock. Unless it's going to let me cum in its mouth, I'm not interested.

Maybe that's why that tranny was wandering around there. He probably realized the place was a hotbed of disposable income and figured it was a good place to sell gaggers in the changing room.
