> low key is RS any good? Im a fucking loser and want to play an MMO
People love it but I never got into it personally, so I can't really comment. I suspect a lot of what keeps the game going is nostalgia goggles and the (very?) low system spec requirements.
That being said, if you're craving an old school / retro feeling MMO experience, I've had a lot of fun with EverQuest, FFXI, and Project Gorgon.
EverQuest is still around and it's still awesome. If you never played back in the day, it's worth checking out just to see what all the fuss is about. You can play on the official servers for a more modernized version of the game that has a lot of QoL features, and every few months (I think once or twice a year) they do new "progression" servers, where the server starts out with the base game and every few months releases the next expansion in the series. It's pretty neat. If you want the true old school experience though you can play on this private server called Project 1999, which aims to recreate the game experience as it would have been at that time.
FFXI is really strange compared to a lot of modern MMOs you might have been exposed to, but it's quite charming in its own way. If you enjoy Final Fantasy generally, it's worth checking out. I don't really have the time to do group activities in MMOs, so I actually quite like that in contemporary versions of the game you can solo pretty effectively. There's a system where you can have what are basically AI companions, which I know a lot of people don't like because it's seen as detracting from the social aspect of the game, but I liked it myself. I also have some fond memories of grouping up with people so it's not like the social aspect of the game is dead at all.
Finally, Project Gorgon is a newer game with an old school aesthetic. I can't recall exactly but I want to say it's developed by a husband and wife team that worked on Asheron's Call. Very grindy and looks like shit, but it's super fun. I played extensively for a while after it came out. If you LIKE grinding, which I do because I'm a fat autist, it's actually an awesome choice.
